On the road to a Cycle-friendly city

Saturday, April 18, 2015

Cycling is a prevalent mode of transport in the Netherlands, with 31% of the people listing the cycle as their main mode of transport for daily activities. This high share for bicycle travel is enabled by excellent cycling infrastructure such as cycle paths, particularly segregated cycle facilities, protected intersections, easily available bicycle parking and by making cycling routes shorter, quicker and more accessible than car routes. On similar grounds, recently the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Akhilesh Yadav announced a plan to develop Noida as a ‘cycle-friendly’ city to promote green living. Some highlights of the cycle friendly project are:

·   Lucknow and Agra  will also be developed as cycle-friendly cities
·   Total cost of the cycling network will be Rs 49 crore
·   Cycle tracks to be built in Sector 62 and Sector 44 in the first phase
·   50 km. of dedicated corridors to be built across the city
·   Healthy and green mode of transport will be promoted with facilities such as cycle tracks, stands,        shelters and bicycle on hire
·   Designing of Blue prints of cycle tracks has been outsourced to a Dutch consultancy firm

With such developments in pipeline, the realty sector of Noida will get a major boost and Noida will surely become the most sought after green region to dwell in.
